The purpose of Montana People's Action is to organize Montana individuals and families to work together for social and economic justice in our communities.

Our foundation is a commitment to democratic ideals, including the importance of family, community, independence, and solidarity. We believe the freedom of each of us depends on the freedom of all of us. We believe part of our mandate is the call to action to redress the imbalance of power in our society. Along with Pope Paul VI, People's Action believes "If you want Peace, Work for Justice."

Our mission is to bring citizens together around education and action that will increase our ability to be self-determining. Through our efforts, Montana citizens can increase their control over the decisions that affect their lives. It is critical that the issues we respond to are articulated by the communities of the powerless which we organize and represent. These communities of need include: the poor; the elderly; women and children; family farmers and ranchers; native Americans; Hispanics; other minority populations; the unemployed; rural citizens; the disabled; and others who are not in a position to control their own economic security.

Together, we will make our voices heard through media, through policy advocacy directed at decision-makers, through door to door outreach, and through voter and consumer education. We will infect others with enthusiasm for our mutual objectives and we will call upon them to join us in action.

As People's Action members we encourage the development of a national agenda which emphasizes the creation of jobs for all citizens and the search for peace at home and abroad. MPA's mission is to foster the development of human potential and to strive for a world we want our children to grow old in. We will attempt to educate ourselves and neighbors about the interrelationship of problems we face in our communities with those of other people of the world. We will remain committed to attacking the roots not just the symptoms of injustice. We will promote self-respect and human dignity for all people through the creation of jobs and decent welfare programs.

Our goal is to build a true community organization that will represent us in addressing the issues which confront us daily: lack of employment opportunities; sky-rocketing utility rates; absence of decent and affordable housing; the unconscionably low standard of living provided to welfare recipients; the abuse of corporate monopoly power; and the erosion of our farm communities and rural economy. we will build an organization that will offer us the skill training and leadership development we need in order to combat these issues.

By joining together with our friends and neighbors to combat the problems that affect our lives, we will raise a common voice against injustice.
